From what I remember of the intentionally obscured lore of the main adventure mode, The toy company that made the blockheads were the first to perfect magnetic fields for use of creating hovering components that stayed a minimum distance away from another part. Unfortunately as this technology was hyper expensive, especially at such a small size, the company failed to make back their investments in the research and development of the toys despite them being very popular.
