The only dead were the two terrorists. The man they attempted to kill survived, albeit wounded. Considering one man with a handgun was able to stop an attack that would have likely killed dozens of people, I would think that perhaps there could have been a chance of incapacitating the Orlando shooter. |

Heavily armed terrorists in body armor aren't really in anyone's list of "things I might see today," but it doesn't mean that a civilian with proper training and practice is completely ineffective. |
