You almost have to either put in another dictator or spend years rebuilding and educating the people there. The problem with the latter is guerrilla warfare. Which would mean in order to curb it you would have to be ruthless and heartless. ie "you kill one soldier, we kill off one town".

Okay, so, leaving Iraq was not the 'only problem' with the Iraq war. The fact we even entered the country to begin with (on false premises of WMDs), proceeded to remove the established leadership, and then created a huge anti-American sentiment in the region by causing immense collateral damage, are all reasons why the Iraq war was a bad idea. You've conveniently left out all of the main problems with that conflict and only left in the single problem for which Obama is responsible.
Also, 'taking out Saddam and holding free elections' is only okay when Iraqis have a hand in doing it. There was no consensus in Iraq that it was alright for us to just overstep Iraqi sovereignty and completely restructure their government. For instance, imagine if China decided that it was unbearable the way that we treat minority groups, so they just decided to come in and remove Obama from office and take over our political process. Would that be acceptable to you?
