Author Topic: rant/help/thing topic - OBS lagging whenever I record  (Read 442 times)

well, hello there. i don't know how to start topics so i'll get right into it.

today i tried to install OBS (open broadcaster software) to record games like tf2 or payday and stuff for stuffs and giggles and i don't really know how to get it to stop lagging. in-game it runs fine but when i look at the recordings it's all choppy and laggy and awful, i searched around for help but nothing really made any sense or did anything to fix the problem.
do any of you have any suggestions?

thank you!

whats your bitrate set at

do you use obs studio or classic

whats your specs

what type of scene are you using to record

i was using obs studio earlier and i tried using classic recently trying to see if there was a difference
i'm not sure what my bitrate on studio was, but currently i set it to 2000 because that was one of "fixes" i saw. it was laggy before that also.

on both versions i used the "game capture" scene.
it may be because of my specs but i've used fraps and other programs just fine on this computer before i had to factory reset it, i don't know why i would have trouble using this.

hey pal i have the non usb3 version of that motherboard in my server

but anyway your processor is likely the problem, its not powerful enough to take a program like fraps or obs, they're extremely cpu intensive

even on my AMD 6350 at 4.5 ghz i still had trouble with OBS using too much CPU and lagging

oh, alright.
i still don't understand why it's struggling for me even though like i mentioned, i've used other programs before that ran perfectly fine.

what kind?

fraps and obs are specifically cpu intensive while other recording programs aren't, like nvidia shadowplay

actually, i used fraps.
i have a few videos i've recorded a while back that i have.
here is one of a blockland build me and my friends built a while back.
the quality is iffy for some reason in that particular one but i don't really remember why.

i mean if fraps works for you then use it

i had serious issues with fraps using way too much cpu power similar to my experience with OBS
