Author Topic: Are Humans Animals?  (Read 3569 times)

Just because you feel superior to animals doesn't mean you aren't one.
Opposable thumbs and a sense of entitlement doesn't make you any less of a wandering organic mass.

Yes, we're just the only ones to figure out that being clever works best when it's done in groups.

Even a human with down syndrome is better than a monkey.

I don't really see any human being better than a monkey. I mean what is "better" anyway? Being more capable at functioning in a world we designed for us to function best in? We all come from the same place.
The universe doesn't care much whether you can throw poop or sort mail, you're only a temporary result of the accumulation of past events, had they gone differently that monkey could be injecting you with gorilla hormones to violently inflame your genitals for some sort of monkey medicine.
It still might...

Down syndrome humans have better EVs and a wider move pool than monkeys, and their shinies look better.

I don't see monkeys unlocking the secrets of space anytime soon.

Monkeys are a couple thousand evolutionary years behind humans.

It will take them a long time till they can reach us. They should have evolved like us humans did but decided to stay as monkeys.

I don't see you unlocking any space secrets either, at least a monkey can survive on its own in the wilderness.

Evolved differently =/= better or further ahead, evolution is adaptation to our environment in order to survive, monkeys are doing just fine. If we use the generally accepted idea of "more evolved" meaning an older and more complex genome, then a grain of rice is twice as evolved as you are.
We like to think we're great and all but really we're just more animals that think we know better than the rest.
To quote one of the most epic works of poetry to date;
“Tiger got to hunt, bird got to fly;
Man got to sit and wonder 'why, why, why?'
Tiger got to sleep, bird got to land;
Man got to tell himself he understand.”
― Kurt Vonnegut, Cat's Cradle

Scientifically we are

I remember Louis CK had a joke about how we somehow essentially got OUT of the food chain, but yeah.
