Author Topic: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL Windows 10 - Day 2  (Read 6570 times)

How can I get rid of it then or whatever

We'll talk about it torrmorow.

there is no solution other than to reinstall. pray you have a utility like a bootable OS to copy your important data, or it's going goodbye.

and yes, i checked. i didn't see one person able to fix it.

Love all these people treating a basic bluescreen as some world-ending event before even trying the basics.

OP, have you tried powering-off your PC, removing the power cord from the back before pressing the power button a couple of times and leaving the PC for a minute or two? Clearing the CMOS can do all sorts of stupidly magical things

i've been having this issue with my drivers ever since i built my computer, so i had to downgrade to windows 8 because no matter what i did it would only stay on a few minutes before blue screening

lol.

One or more of your device drivers(the firmware telling your system's hardware how to do things) is screwed.
Unfortunately, as windows 10 is absolutely atrocious in terms of accessibility when trying to access boot options, your best bet for attempting to fix your drivers is to:
A) boot to a secondary hard drive that has a copy of Windows(you really should, it's surprisingly useful), if you have one, and follow my instructions below; (if you need to ask how to boot to the other copy, you don't have one)
B) Insert a windows install or upgrade disc(preferably windows 8 or 10, but 7 will do) and attempt to repair windows from there through my instructions below;
or C) Format a flash drive to act as a windows 10 install kit and attempt to repair windows from it as you would with option B.

Fixing this from a secondary drive with a windows OS:
1. Open Device Manager
2. One by one, update the drivers for all hardware you have. This may take a while. If it doesn't work for a particular device, uninstall the driver completely and reinstall it.
3. Open a command prompt(preferably with administrator access) and enter 'SFC /scannow'. This might take a while.
4. Then, enter 'dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth'. This one may take a while too, and it won't work if you don't have internet access.

Fixing this from a bootable disc or flash drive's 'repair windows' options:
1. Locate and open the command prompt. If you're using a windows 8 or 10 install or upgrade disc, this will be in the 'advanced options' section.
2. Enter 'C:'. This will (presumably) take you to your main drive with Windows on it. If this isn't your main drive, substitute C for the drive letter Windows is on.
3. Enter 'SFC /scannow'. This might take a while.

If your main install of Windows is still screwed, though, your best option is to reformat your drive by reinstalling Windows.

storahci.sys is Windows's system driver for interfacing with AHCI devices (manly SATA drives, which most HDDs and SSDs are these days). DRIVER_IRQL_LESS_OR_NOT_EQUAL (aka Bug Check 0xD1) basically means that a kernal-level driver (a bit of software that's embedded deep into your system to talk to hardware in your PC) is trying to access a memory address on RAM that it shouldn't have access to. This usually means that the driver or the hardware is faulty; 9 times out of 10 it's because the driver has become corrupt or was installed incorrectly.

I'm kind of interested in what triggered it for you. Did you just install Windows 10 or any new software/drivers? Did you bump your PC or install/replace/remove any hardware?

The others have given you some pretty detailed support options, just do as they say and it'll be fixed. First time I've ever been beaten to the punch on tech support terms :D

I've been wanting to downgrade to win8
You have to tell me
Even with a loop of restarts because it's been doing that all night

Well, it all started when I was on Soundcloud and was about to download a song. The second I pressed download it started responding and not responding and I couldn't X out
I'm not sure what is was but now it's 8:18 am and is still doing the loop

Sorry I just woke up

I think I'll stick to downgrading
Remurr loving tell me how to downgrade to win8 pls

How can I
It's okay, clearing CMOS is the WRONG solution to this problem (that will clear BIOS settings, which have nothing to do with Windows). AutoBahn's steps are correct. A core part of Windows is damaged and won't work unless it's replaced. The only other option is to reinstall another OS, but you may lose all your files if you don't do a backup.

Hmmm, I think the problem may run deeper than that. I'll have a think about it.
