Is everyone forgetting that moderators cannot ban users? Ephialtes could never ban anyone, at most he could delete their posts.

I'm pretty certain Rotondo was given the ability to ban, but didn't always have it.

Because it used to be the case that when there was a spammer he would have to move all their topics/posts to failbin.

Ephi used to be the same, but was also given the ability to ban eventually.

Well unless stuff changed at some point and I never cared enough to notice, I distinctly remember it being common knowledge a few years ago that Ephialtes couldn't ban people. Global Moderators do not have that power. Only admins do.

Yes, I am now aware that they can ban people. But before that wasn't the case.

Like I said before,
Im just referring to method of administration alone. Everyone looks at friendly and helpful personalities but don't consider that it means next to nothing when it comes to actual administration. Badspot is a total rooster sometimes but he still runs the forums well.

I see your point but I think it's important for mods to have a certain degree of likeability. Tony has a way of pissing everyone off (he does it deliberately) and I don't think the people would enjoy having him in charge. The environment would be too toxic.
