absolutely not, no.
if someone wore their shoes into my house i'd scream

Would generally rather have shoes in contact with flooring than sweat-soaked socks or athlete's feet walking around. If they got mud or whatever on them, just wipe them off real first.

no

its rare if I even wear shoes at all, being barefoot is 50x better (too bad it's very dirty to do so :( )

That would be disrespecting their house. You leave your shoes by the little step in front of the door in every house ever.

when did this start happening?

when did this start happening?
after shag carpeting stopped being popular (aka when people started having clean floors)

No one takes off their shows in other people's houses where I live, this is the first I've heard of it being done in America. (I live in the south, West tn)

I wore my shoes into someone's house today without thinking and began to get onto furniture while wearing my shoes and about had a heart attack when I realized what I was doing. Kicked my shoes off right there.

The better states have some dignity (and real houses). We take our shoes off.

I always ask, although I usually end up taking them off anyway because shoes aren't very comfortable. I've never seen it as an important thing, and when I have friends over, I couldn't care less.

Perhaps they're pinky-extending tea-sippers or something.

I wear shoes, mostly because i don't ever bring any other kind of footwear to change into, and i don't want to gather any dust or dirt on my feet or socks from their floors
