Author Topic: Is building a computer a dying art?  (Read 3025 times)

what is there to gain by making it more available to the general public

Both sony and ms have mentioned that there will not likely be a ps5 or xboxtwo.  They won't admit it's because computer hardware is surpassing console needs way way to quickly now, and there is no feasable way they csn make money on a new gen.

Thats why they are both already in the works to start pc platforms for their gaming (steam ripoffs)

Pc owning will become very very big next gen.

looks like bisjac finally had a stroke

I do think it would make PC building much more universal and broaden the demographic.

As long as you meet the minimum power supply all you do is just pop it in.

-awful picture-

You got all this loving bullstuff you need to look out for. If a computer company designed a system with a universal slot that works for any computer from now till the future that could revolutionize how we build computers.

It could force other companies to change or put them out of business and end this bullstuff practice of making so many different slots forcing customers to buy new stuff all the time.
Unless you're buying hardware from the 1980's you don't have to look out for 90% of this stuff. The NES had composite audio cables in it. Some of this stuff isn't even for computers - It's for TV.

loving IDE cables? Seriously? Processor card slots? Old Mac computer components? This chart even has some Notebook hard drives in it. Why on earth would you put that in a desktop?

You can already just ask someone on a PC building forum and they'll pretty much design the build according to your wishes and budget. Alternatively you can go to Pcpartpicker.com

I dont use auto typing on my phone lol.

1 to many "shirty" days at work

I'd expect this from a PC gaming forum.

But can you step out of being in denial for a sec? Even windows is trying to prevent PC building so they can maximize profits by forcing people to buy a whole new system every few years.
Asks, if building a pc is a dying act
Gets a response
Plays the denial card and say it is.
WTF are you asking for then?

It's definitely getting more popular if anything.

rofl you only need to know like 10% of that chart you posted tony like nobody's gonna sit through and memorize every random port and connector and cpu socket that isn't even in use anymore

it's seriously easy if you actually just loving try it

This is so outdated it hurts

itt: Tony being stubborn: part 7648

Building a computer is basically the same as looking at a few numbers and see if they match up with other parts
They do? Great, your stuff is compatible!

Also pcpartpicker has a compatibility filter so even someone with literally no pc knowledge can make on with that

The only time you need to even know 90% of that chart is if you're me and you're obsessed with old and new tech.

If you're more interested in the new its a cakewalk. There's no state of denial going on here.

The reason sockets/connectors change is because technology improves and you need a new bus with more bandwidth.
You mentioned USB, but even that changes.

A lot of the newer ones are being made to be backwards compatible (you can plug a USB3 cable into a USB2 socket, or a PCIe3 card into a PCIe2 socket and it'll work) but the device will run slower because you're bottlenecking it by the speed of the slower bus.

I'm honestly kinda low-key offended tony called it an "art"

Honestly though a computer is like one of the most simple things you can put together. Making it even more simpler isn't going to increase the popularity of people building one.

This
Lego technic is harder, even with the step by step manual made for 10 year old kids.

I like that we all mutually agreed that exactly 90% of Tony's chart is irrelevant these days.

this topic has been made just so tony can assert his opinion.

"is this this?" "well no it's no-""hey man stop being in denial alright?"

tony this is how electronics work for gods sake if you had a console you'd buy one every other few years, same goes for PC.
