gimp is like paint.net for people who arent scared of a mild learning curve
yea and taking five minutes to start it up lol
I love the GIMP but it's not always practical

i like paint.net better cause im more familiar with it, and i know how to push the limits of the software a bit. i do the same thing with windows movie maker.

just checked. took me less than 4 seconds to launch

correction:

gimp is like paint.net for people who arent scared of a mild learning curve and have 2 or more gigabytes of ram

I can do a lot of things that i've used paint.net before with sharex's built in one.

GIMP is amazing for heavy image/gif editing.

once you go photoshop you cant live without it

ive owned photoshop for a few years and i still haven't figured it out entirely. so much unnecessary complexity. its like gimp but darker and ramped up to the extreme

i 100% agree that it's a better program though, but not worth it for the price unless you are a professional

ive been using it for about three years now and i pretty much know it (almost) top to bottom. its basically what you do with it which makes you a pro at it. not even close to there but anyways you can say its pretty much its own artform.

first of all RAM quantity has nothing to do with loading time unless you have so little that it requires you to start using a page file
second, eat my richard

I've just installed it and opened it twice to check. the first time it took at least thirty seconds. the second, though, it took like three
presumably in practice it's going to depend on how long it's been since you last used it, whether or not you've installed any new fonts or anything like that, maybe some other stuff idfk
but the point is, it's not as snappy as pdn

also, worst of all, my favorite censoring tool ("crystallize" in pdn, "mosaic" in the GIMP) looks significantly less great in the GIMP

crystallize got me this sick cool background which i only used for a week

my current background right now though which i made

if anyone wants either of them i can upload the full size

I can't use GIMP after having used Photoshop since High School (mandatory for Graphics/Design classes).

I use Paint when I need something to very quickly make a line edit, and Photoshop would seem overkill. Good to see it is getting 3D tools, although I do use Mudbox which gives me more power.

I prefer using paint.net which is like Ms Paint and Photoshop were mixed, idk I've grown to like it

But ye glad to see it's being updated a bit

I've been using gimp since I was 12.
