Author Topic: [NEWS] Washington D.C. votes 79% in favor of becoming state called New Columbia  (Read 3105 times)

dc's current quasi-statehood is really weird and silly, they might as well become a real state

guam and the virgin islands should also become states. no reason in strangling their right to vote and be a part of national decisions
then we could have 55 states and the star arrangement would be 6x10. vote for me.

6x10 is 60 so def not voting for you
Itd be 11x5

the problem here is asymmetric federalism

the entire reason dc isnt a state is because it's the seat of federal power for governing the states

the only workaround to avoid making a state with no autonomy is to officially take away the land from federal control, which complicates a host of administrative issues when it really shouldnt

I can fducking count. vote for me. we get 60 stars so we're ready for the next five states we add.

i think master matthew doesn't realize dc is more than just the capitol - it includes the neighborhoods and businesses located in the surrounding area

that said, would senators vote in dc or vote in their home state then? what about the president? what kind of political party affiliation would dc have?

the two states weren't specified

Wasn't DC designed to not be a state?

Wasn't DC designed to not be a state?
Yes, but that's flawed because they have no representation in the Senate and people there couldn't even vote for the president until 1961
