Author Topic: [NEWS] Clinton vote lead grows to 2 mil; Stein opens recount req. in WI, MI, PA  (Read 20759 times)

I was told the electoral college was made way back then, before things like TV and such, because people from other states would hear very little about candidates. So, the electoral college was made in order to prevent people from voting for bad presidents they knew nothing about.

Well, that's useless now. But that's the only thing I really know that the electoral college has a use for.

quadruple the # of electoral college votes and give votes based on % won of each state

Make the number of electoral college votes equal to the number of voters. Elect all voters to the Electoral College. Give votes based on % won of each state.

anyone that proposes a constitutional amendment in congress is either having a laugh or out of their forgetin mind. unless there's a national outcry, there's no way you're getting 2/3 of both houses and 3/4 of states to agree on anything right now

Or how about this much simpler idea: Every state waits until all the votes are done being counted. All the states pledge to cast all their electoral votes for whoever won the popular vote.

why bother fixing the electoral college when you can just remove it altogether? Like what's the point of even having it around at this time? Sure you can say that some voters aren't educated but who's place is it to say who is an educated voter and who isn't?

yeah, this is a plan that some states are already talking about, but it'll be a hard press to get it to happen.

it more safely ensures representation on more local levels by allowing less densely populated areas have a disproportionately higher effect on the outcome of an election. this is a mixed bag of good and bad.

a big problem right now is that states other than nebraska and maine don't distribute their electors according to how well each candidate does; the candidate that wins a plurality in that state will receive every single electoral vote that state has. if states didn't do this and instead gave out their votes in a sane way, the electoral college would definitely be more representative, though obviously still fallible. of course, this isn't necessarily a bad thing, because the majority is also fallible, and our complex government system is inefficient by design to help stop demagogues from sweeping the vote and yelling their way into office. of course, since states use popular votes, this is still a problem regardless lol

Removing it altogether requires a constitutional amendment, which is difficult, requiring....I believe it's 3/4 of states' approval

But since the constitution doesn't specify how states allocate the votes, reworking it like this:
Or how about this much simpler idea: Every state waits until all the votes are done being counted. All the states pledge to cast all their electoral votes for whoever won the popular vote.
is something that can be done, and has already been done by 10 states

The same people had no issues with super delegates lol
