You can buy a key on the website and use it instead of steam, yes.
You can't replace the key linked to your steam account though.

If you want to use the alt but still play with your steam copy, you can right click blockland in your steam library, and add -nosteam to launch options.
Then it should prompt you to enter a key on start.
