Author Topic: so what if blockland was actually ported to a console  (Read 3715 times)

ok before you post your screaming just hear me out for a second

consoles have USB ports nowadays, and we know that some consoles have mouse support (i believe PS4 does, although i'm not sure)

what if it was possible to simply make keyboard and mice specifically for that console's hardware (hardware are different for certain systems), and release them along with the game? it's dumb, but it could work

alternatively, you could find a way to recognize keyboard and mice instead of just using a controller

controllers could be used, it'd just be awful for building anything worthwhile, more for DMs and prison escape and other games that don't require building

you also have the wii u which could be perfect. brown townog sticks to move around, block kits and other things on the bottom, and it could control basically like a FPS (with configurable controls).

and for addons, it could go the following ways.

a. package a bunch of good addons and port them into the new version of the game, things like unlimited mining, new duplicator, new brick tool, a bunch of others, to name a few

or b. setup a addon downloading system like bethesda has, possibly reusing code from things like RTB or blockland glass

this could also be a chance to support crossplay, possibly linking the master server to all versions of the game, allowing for lots more players at the same time

then...engines.
torque basically isn't supported by anything anymore afaik, correct me if i'm wrong since i am

you could unity, but it would basically require remaking the game all together

and would probably/obviously (depending on the situation) require remaking of all addons based on how much coding gets modified (or if someone makes a conversion of one code language to another, basically)

it's a dumb thought, there's been a million threads, but what if this were to come true? would we appear on the front of the online stores like eshop and playstation store and get actual visitors with good servers?

who knows. it's just a thought, after all, don't take it too seriously

why? a console is just another bad computer, there is no reason to care about them.

once again, just a thought.

could expand the playerbase depending on how much it gets known, though

I need VR Blockland where I have to place every brick by hand

jesus christ this sounds horrifying

what if there was just like a giant room you could walk around in with a vr headset attached to your head or like glasses

and you were given controllers and you just built by hand, scrolling through a GUI and such
would allow you to...experience it, i guess?

once again, just a thought.

Completely speaking out of my ass here, but is Torque even available for consoles? Badspot may have to port the whole thing to a new engine.  While this actually could revive the game (maybe, although probably rather time consuming), it could also be a stuffton of work for nothing.

Again, some people fail to consider that not everyone has a computer, even if production sales say otherwise. I think it would be a pleasant idea of Blockland being multi-platform, even if the engine is sub-par by today's standards.

mentioned this earlier in my post, yeah. i believe torque was on the xbox 360 (see: marble blast ultra)?

Port Blockland to console... For who?

Think most people get a computer or laptop before they buy a console, kind of silly to go other way around.

Maybe they should get one then, if they want to play games.

My brother and I configured Blockland to work with VR.
It was pretty fun but sometimes it would either crash or just not work at all.

love role plays back then would have been fun.
