Author Topic: Does "walking away" solve cyberbullying?  (Read 4729 times)

Cyberbullying: Yes
Real life bullying: No

in most cases, yes. nobody gets cyberbullied on websites where you're anonymous, whether it be by the huge amount of users (think youtube) or by design (think 4chan). when you get into more personal websites like facebook, i think it can be harder to get away from.

unless you post personal information or are totally dependent on the forums for social interaction, i think you could walk away from the BLF pretty easy if you think you're being bullied. the issue for a lot of users is that they're really attached to this forum and they don't want to leave, even if it's the better decision. i can think of a few users who would be much happier (and much better liked) if they had left while they were ahead.

While leaving the situation does in fact prevent the bullying from happening...
It's also a form of surrender and doesn't allow you to remain in the place you may have been enjoying.
The stuffhead should be the one to suffer consequence, not the victim.

However...

These are the Blockland forums. Not much is lost by walking away from here. Any value here is either the 'hellhole' culture we have here, or posting in sections that are actually Blockland related. He doesn't do the latter. You could easily avoid any troubles caused by the former by only doing the latter.

it seems hard to be cyber bullied when you can block/spam emails, block people on fb, block calls and txt. nearly every game and website and app you have options to not speak to anyone at all.
you basically have to want to be bullied on the internet for it to really be an issue.

its like comp-dumb people with virus protection. it will still happen because they let it happen. nothing you can do, no matter what efforts are made will stop it when stupid allows it.

doesn't solve anything

but, if you engage in an internet battle because someone called you fat, you're probably not helping

its a case by case situation, I had a case where "walking away" didnt help.

I was being harassed for a while by some people on this forum, and even after I walked away from the blf for a while, they continued to harass me on other sites that I went to, so pretty much anywhere I went I'd be followed by the issue I tried to "walk away" from.

so no it doesn't always solve your issues, but it does help a bit I guess.

but you didn't really walk away from the screen. also I'm glad you were shamed into leaving until you got over spreading your cancerous special interest.

These same people who say walking away from cyberbullying stops it are generally the same people who essentially go on dramas and complain about other people's stuffty behavior. If walking away from a problem online would solve it, then there wouldn't be a reason for a drama section at least. There wouldn't be a reason to ban anyone because clearly the victims of trolling and spamming are in the wrong for having a reaction to it, so there's no reason to ban the innocent perpetrators who cause problems.

There are always people who love to blame the victim of something for having it happen to them. People blame rape victims for being raped, blame victims of cyberbullying for being bullied and feeling bad. Why not blame the victim of murder instead of the murderer?

usually yeah since most cyberbullying isnt even "cyberbullying" just bad trolling

thats not why we have a drama. at all.

No, the only difference from irl bullying is the sense that processes it. That said a lot of idiots don't know the difference between bullying and someone calling them out for their stuff.

you cant get your teeth kicked in with non-irl bullying tho

No, it's not really like virus protection at all.
You can block all you want. That only stops direct interactions. Doesn't stop them from stuff talking you to all your online buds. You can't defend yourself from that unless they aren't blocked. After all, you can't deny what you can't see.
Malware on the other hand, doesn't do that.
