to clarify I just spammed him now to get his attention since the indicator would go crazy
he has been inactive but "online" for weeks and this is about the third time I spammed him
other times I would just message "hello?" and then "DUDE" and then "GOD DAMN IT"

I think you should give him a break. There are friends that i periodically stop talking to for months and they're still alive. People can't just always be ready to interact with you at a moments notice.
