gay marriage
alright let's get the obvious out of the way and point out the fact that it was a majority-republican supreme court that legalized "gay marriage"
second, the push for gay marriage is complete and utter bullstuff.
there is no logical reason the state needs to provide the benefits that married straight couples are given
(benefits that are aimed solely at encouraging people to reproduce, stay together, and provide the means for raising the next generation of americans in a stable, functional home environment) needs to be given to friends. "civil unions" were already a thing, and the provided all same government benefits that marriage provided without the tax exemptions or incentives.
people like to cry about how some hospitals wouldn't recognize civil unions when it came to allowing hospital visits, but that's the right of the hospital. if the hospital says that only spouses (vice domestic partners) can visit a patient at some point during their treatment, it's not up to the government to change the definition of spouse. people can boycott and protest, and it works. look at the civil rights movement where huge leaps were made simply by boycotting tribal establishments until they allowed colored people to patronize them.
