Shyamalan's "Split" boycotted for "portrayal of mental illness, common sense"
Whackin:
i would complain about this movie more for its silly plot than because of common sense
Poliwhirl:
not entirely sure what common sense has to do with it but the "mental illness is scary :(" cliche needs to die
Red Spy:
Shyamalan's first decent movie in a while and people are pissing their pants for all the wrong reasons
Glass Joe:
for forgets sake, PC culture is gonna destroy all entertainment at this rate
shyamalan didn't make this movie because he wanted to show those loving transmissions what for, he wanted to explore the concept of mental illness and make a terrifying movie out of it. yes, there is a stuffty stigma around mental illness and all, and not all mentally ill people are completely deranged lunatics, but you can't ignore the fact that mental illness does prompt people to do such things and that the concept of it can be used for a scary piece of entertainment. besides, it's not like people are gonna walk out of the movie theater thinking "gosh, those transmissions and schizos are probably gonna kill me and steal my children" and anyone who believes that will actually happen as a result of this movie is an idiot.
TL;DR it's a thriller movie, it's meant to be scary, get over it.
mod-man:
one of my coworkers brings this up when i talk about split. he says it puts a bad image on people with these issues
yknow i can vibe with where hes coming from, but are people honestly gonna see this movie and expect all people with multiple personalities to be like crazy kevin? honestly i really enjoy the idea of multiple personalities as a plot point, but he says its harmful to those who really suffer from these issues
--- Quote ---Additionally, this film paints mental illness as a horror movie plot, and not a real issue that should be addressed seriously and with profound compassion."

murder, rape, pillaging, psychological torture, gore, Self Delete, the list goes on for literal miles......... and you pick. mental. illness?
"well ive never experienced rape or murder so those arent 'real' issues. i live in a box and cant see outside of my own deluded fantasy world. its my way or the highway BITCH"
