At least with the issues divided at a close 50/50 split, it's not really possible for one political faction to completely domineer over the other. The power struggle prevents tyrannical rule. I think that 9/11 was an example of what you're talking about, where a sudden event galvanized support for invading Iraq. But in hindsight we know that was a mistake. |
