i have this feeling that by the time the wall goes up, anti-illegal-immigrant sentiment and the fewer benefits america offers will result in fewer illegal immigrants and that it will be misattributed to the wall.
the data already shows that the wall wont stop the majority of illegal immigrants. its a bit absurd to think that people only jump the wall to get in when there's ways to go under or around it. let alone the actual way most illegal immigrants get in - legal visas.

you can have reform without spending billions on a wall

no one expects it to stop 100% of people. but hoards wont be walking on through anymore. guards that travel up and down the length will catch holes.
every other wall in the world (borders) is extremely successful.
isreal's wall stopped 1000s a year down to less than 50.
mexico's southern wall stopped most of the south americans.
we have 30's of thousands that we are even aware of per year. that stuff is far too many.

The difference is the wall in Israel is ridiculously smaller and easier to patrol than our 2,000 mile border. Mexico doesn't have a southern border wall or fence. Don't know where you heard that.
