*note I was typing this up but I realised you didn't really mean to confuse synth and vapor since both are 80's inspired anyway I was just butthurt you reffered to vapor instead of synth
vaporwave isn't pop, its closer to synthwave but synth has been around before vapour

vaporwave, according to Wikipedia, is more closer inspired to the surrealism towards technology and such back in the day, idk though because I don't listen to vapour, I actually jokingly reffered to it as elevator music and the quote from Wikipedia seems to agree
--- Quote ---"Vaporwave (British English: vapourwave)[10] is an electronic music subgenre [11] that originated in the early 2010s and spread over the next half of the decade among various Internet communities. It is characterized by a nostalgic or surrealist fascination with entertainment, technology and advertising of the 1980s and 1990s, and styles of both corporate and popular music such as lounge music, smooth jazz and elevator music"
--- End quote ---

synthwave however is inspired by soundtracks from the 80's and such

--- Quote ---Aesthetically, synthwave gives a retrofuturistic perspective, emulating 1980s science fiction, action, and horror media, sometimes compared to cyberpunk.[6][10] Synthwave expresses nostalgia for 1980s culture, attempting to capture the era's atmosphere and celebrate it.[11] Examples of this aesthetic may be viewed in films and video games such as Kung Fury, Turbo Kid, Drive,[7] Hotline Miami,[12][13] and Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon.[14][15]
--- End quote ---

I mean sure they're pretty similar but the instruments used and aesthetic background them are still distinct enough that if someone confuses the two I'm going to loving strangle them

on that note 'Take On Me' is synthpop so it fits, neither vaporwave nor synthwave relate to pop however
