The correlation is that with nationalism if you think your country is the best then you think other countries are inferior, different countries generally have different cultures so you think other cultures are inferior, etc.

That was for nationalism specifically. For Islam it's because they technically want to enforce traditional values

nationalism doesn't have to be about nationality, either. white nationalism, black nationalism, islamic nationalism, etc. it's all about "we're superior because we were born like this"
