Why are there no sci-fi movies where humanity is the "alien" species?

I immediately thought of Avatar. I thought that movie sucked. Since when do primitive savage tribes triumph over America?

I don't think this article is talking about the same thing. I'm talking from a technology standpoint, not how many show up in the movie. I liked Star Wars because humanity was on the same level as the rest of the galaxy.
