is BLM (BLACK LIVES MATTER) good
<< < (5/5)
otto-san:
exists for good enough reason, obvs lots of bad dudes in there that make it hard for people to take it seriously as a movement. tho i suppose the same thing happened during the civil rights era so it's not the first time we've been here
Rally:

--- Quote from: Rally on February 03, 2017, 02:46:15 PM ---Here's an idea: Lets start a new '''movement''' called 'Antifa 2' but this time we're actually going to accept responsibility for the outcome of massive political assemblies (instead of just blaming it on a 'lack of leadership') and prevent people who want to loving burn stuff and beat people in the street from attending our events

EDIT: And another new movement called "Black Lives Actually Really Matter This Time"

--- End quote ---

Amassing in the street to block traffic is not an effective way to protest, even if these wildly disorganized and irresponsible protests didn't devolve into violent riots whenever they occurred. I don't disagree with the message, but I do disagree with conforming under a 'movement' with no clear leadership that allows anyone, from peaceful protesters, to violent enraged and hateful rioters, to assemble in the same place under the same flag lol
SeventhSandwich:
In my mind, I don't actually conflate BLM with violent riots. In my own personal group of acquaintances, I know about two people who are real gung-ho 'BLM members', and they both attend Ivy League schools.

I think that publicizing the violent riots and ignoring the peaceful protests is the same kind of thing that union-busters used to do back during the 20s. They get a small group of protestors to do something unsavory and then use it to shut down all the rest of the protestors.

The 'BLM' name is probably sullied beyond repair, but their overall philosophy will get picked up by a similar group sometime soon.
