His being gay is a major hidden plot point that isn't clearly shown throughout the film, but fully visualized and well-crafted to utilize it in a unique way, so in a precise way, more of a yes than no.

I see that title, and immediately think of the Sailor Moon theme. I'm usually too busy laughing at that to see what the film was actually about. Never watched it myself, either, and most likely won't, since it's not sci-fi or fantasy.
