[NEWS] Annoying Orange proposes $54 bil increase on military spending
<< < (8/31) > >>
Zloff:
how about instead of increasing it we cut the budget in half and force our military to be less wasteful with what they're already given

"america's military is embarrassingly weak! we used 60-70yo bombers recently!" - republicans

1. how in thee loving world do we have such a "weak" military when we spend this much? if you give your kid a weekly $20 allowance of which they're expected to use to spend on food for when you aren't home some days but they spend it on steam games do you give him more money to compensate or tell him to quit loving around? we should be able to conquer the planet with this kind of spending ffs

2. we're fighting an enemy with low-tech capabilities and practically no anti-air, do we spend money to send in the super-expensive-to-operate-and-maintain b-2 (the best in the world(lol "weak")) or the perfectly operational b52 that will get the job done all the same? at least that there's some proper budgeting.

free college is a terrible idea. the government shouldn't subsidize student loans at all

So let me get this straight. If you're born a poor student, you have two options:

Take out a loan, which will be really difficult to pay and if you miss it at all you'll be forgeted over with an inescapable debt that will reduce your credit score, making it impossible for you to start businesses, receive investments from other people, buy automobiles, and various other stuffty things

or

Risk your life in the military, a service that you may or may not be qualified to participate in based on your medical history, and won't actually pay you enough to survive for more than a year once your tour ends

i understand most colleges offer financial aid for low-income students but that covers almost 50% of the cost, which will end up being like 18-20k anyways.

ok i don't entirely agree with beachbums 2-choice thing, but a majority of military occupations are not combat roles

Yeah man it's not like there are far more of one then the other https://nces.ed.gov/fastfacts/display.asp?id=84

If you actually read the article France tried taxing the richer part of their population more and it backfired.

--- Quote from: Poliwhirl on February 28, 2017, 04:09:58 PM --- spend the rest of your life paying off student loans

If you got a stuffty degree that didn't qualify you for a well paying job then yes.

Military planning is more than just 'buy this tank and use it'

there's a lot of complexity and investments that go into international conflicts and other stuff, but for the most part it's the government making a deal with NRA and other military industrial companies to contract thousands of vehicles, most of which aren't going to be used. I think that our current military could function at the same capacity and effectiveness at 150 billion a year

Since colleges are a business, I believe they shouldn't be entirely payed for, but I still believe that the government should cover some the cost for students based on their financial situation, since the cost of college is outrageously high. Colleges still make a ton of money on meal plans and varsity sports tickets, which make up if not 50% of the college's income.
