to add onto this, a non-trivial number people also think genocide is okay at times. just because some find it perfectly okay doesn't make it humane.

the thing is illegal immigrants aren't (for the most part) hard criminals or anything. i agree, prisoners should be put to work during their sentence, but it should depend on the offense. i dont think someone who is serving a month for being caught with weed should be forced into working for that entire month. but a rapist? if youre not gonna kill him then yeah he should be put to work.

imo, crossing the border is not a serious offense. security is so lax, and the precedent of being able to cross it with ease is so established that literally anyone from mexico could do it if they really wanted to. these people aren't hard criminals, so i dont see the point in punishing them in the same way. deporting them is a very viable option, and is what most people want anyways. this is just an easy way for the government to take advantage of very, very cheap labor in a pretty immoral way.
