well, here's the thing: you'd be left with north carolina, south carolina and georgia as your only port cities, which means exporting those raw materials would be an absolute pain in the ass. the red states would form self-sufficiency, but in a japan-isolation type way that involves a complete disconnect from the outside world
since those red states would main in raw materials like cotton, sugar, corn etc etc, those are the only materials you'd be able to own. finished goods, like computers, cars and oil would be a luxury, since you need other countries to produce those things.
you'd have a self-sufficient country with no connection to the outside world and no technological, medical or chemical goods. in other words, the equivalent of a post-neolithic revolution society built around farming, eating and nothing else
