Humans are more like that boulder than could fall any second now and kill you. We've enough nuclear weapons to liquidate the planet. We're a much bigger impact than you think.

What's stopping you from saying the same thing about, say, nuking a coral reef?

Moral platitudes are nice and all but like, the actual scientific research says something completely different here.

Also like, mass extinctions are 'natural' too, but that doesn't mean it won't forget up our way of life terribly.

That's why the scientific community's tune changed from prevention to adaption. Because if we don't adapt, we all face the risk of having our way of life become completely unsustainable.

We are part of the eco system. If life becomes unsustainable then people will die out, emissions will go down, and nature will reset. C'est la vie.

Or just like, put some basic environmental regulations and work towards more sustainable forms of energy? If it's between that and cleaning up the damage of overzealous capitalists for centuries to come, why not just play it safe?
