why are all these new sites/site layouts making avatars forced into a circle? looks weird sometimes

anyways this isnt really (and is far from) the worst layout but i don't really like it, i don't get why people are throwing around 'ME NO LIKE CHANGE' when people have their own reasons not to be liking something like this. i really don't like the mobile/minimalist look they're giving it, but hey at least they gave us the option to opt out of it
