this is pretty much conservative fear mongering. like 90% of people who identify as different genders other than what they appear probably don't care too much if you mis-gender them initially, but they'll definitely let you know. most people don't really care to that point, since it's physically impossible to know someone's gender immediately just by looking at them.
gender pronouns are just like honorifics. calling an adult woman 'kid' compared to 'ma'am' is obviously going to get a negative reaction. if you see an adult woman who looks extremely young for her age, you might make the mistake of calling her 'kid' or 'miss' or whatever, and most likely she will correct you. from that point on, if you continue calling her 'kid' just because of your own personal opinion on age, you deserve any anger you provoke and are entirely in the wrong
