He's not wrong.
It doesn't directly kill you.
It just lets other things do it.
To make a video game comparison... Let's say you were immune to fire damage. But some warlock lowered your fire resistance, then some other wizard killed you with a fireball.
The warlock didn't kill you, he just enabled it.
