I highly recommend The Untold History of the United States and WWII in Color. As far as space stuff goes, Cosmos (with Niel deGrasse Tyson) is good. And of course, there's always Planet Earth. Unfortunately, it seems WWII in Color is no longer on Netflix (it's been uploaded to YouTube, though), but the others are.

not space related, but I really enjoyed Jiro Dreams of Sushi. has a far-reaching message about determination and hard work that goes way beyond sushi and cooking
