the point is that we tried nation building in Iraq and it would have gone successfully if we had kept our troops there long enough to ensure a stable government, as was the case with the other examples you listed, but Obama pulled us out of Iraq before that could happen

I was building on your point, not trying to start stuff

it was actually bush that pre-arranged to have troops out of iraq by 2011 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S.%E2%80%93Iraq_Status_of_Forces_Agreement

and the US's involvement there wasn't very popular with iraqi citizens, which is fairly important if you're looking to overhaul a nation and have its citizens accept your changes. if citizens are unhappy with the people who set up the system, their sense of efficacy is probably going to be very low, which can naturally lend itself to unconventional protest like we know has happened since

--- Quote from: Drydess on May 23, 2017, 09:15:44 PM ---my theory is that if we expose the middle east to western technology and living standards then terrorism will dwindle away for the most part
the issue is that that would be loving expensive and also politics

the reason the middle east is forgeted in terms of civilization advancement is because its 90% desert. civilizations located between 40-50 degrees north or 10-50 south of equator tend to have the most fertile soil and good water sources, and therefore advance really quickly.

most of the middle east is between 30-0 degrees north, which is also known as the dry pusillanimous individual quarter. any higher and you'd be in the luscious labia zone. thats where spain and california are
