--- Quote from: IkeTheGeneric on June 02, 2017, 10:26:13 PM ---Well yeah, the end result is because of how much exposure it got, but I'd argue that celebrities should have put a little more care and responsibility into their statements in actions just considering how often they get media exposure as opposed to your random Joe doing something controversial. --- End quote --- If we're talking about before anything gets publicized, then yes, I agree. Being a high-profile comedian and saying something holds way more weight than burning a doll in your backyard (which may or may not have been filmed by somebody). But even if we're not looking for blame against someone, the videos of burning Obamas should have received more backlash from conservatives on the basis of human decency. To be fair, there were plenty who did call it out, but definitely not as a high a percentage as those currently piling on Griffin. |

--- Quote from: SeventhSandwich on June 02, 2017, 10:20:03 PM ---If they both end up on television for people to watch, what's the real difference? I don't believe in the theory that stuffty behavior is only unacceptable if you're a celebrity. Kathy Griffin and backwood hicks are equally at fault for their own respective bullstuff. --- End quote --- I've never seen Obama-doll hanging idiots get air time on television And I'm sure if they did it was only to point out how pants-stufftingly insane they were, as it should However, Kathy here is different, because her exposure was not for the sake of admonishment, but appraisal. At least until reasonable people on both sides saw it and said "oh no honey what is u doin" I'm not saying it's only unacceptable from her, I'm saying it's different because everyone knows the backwoods idiots are idiots and should be made fun of whilst there are a decent amount of our population who would praise depictions of our president getting decapitated. The worst I've seen from T_D is Obama in prison or calling him Obongo. I just don't think it's equatable. |

There were some highly-publicized incidents during his first term. You must have missed it. --- Quote from: Deus Ex on June 02, 2017, 10:32:40 PM ---However, Kathy here is different, because her exposure was not for the sake of admonishment, but appraisal. --- End quote --- If that's the case, that's unacceptable. I've only seen admonishment of her photo, which is clearly deserved. |

I don't know how much of it could be chalked up to party favoritism and instead just that there wasn't enough of a gumption to care about the controversial videos of burning obama's likeness. |

I do have to notice the fact that I can remember Obama's likeness burning pretty clearly, but I haven't gone out of my way to find any liberals who support Kathy's image. This probably skews my perspective a bit. |
