duno where this idea that otherkin = gender dysphoria comes from, but it's clinically inaccurate. parents who actively refuse to create a supportive environment where someone in their care with gender dysphoria can live as their preferred identity, or even worse, harass them and disregard their identity, are legitimately causing actual psychological harm to that person and that isn't okay in any circumstance

We're talking about kids. Kids. Anyone who's seen kids know they say stupid stuff all the time. My neighbor's kid once said his blanket was magic because it kept him warm. Imagine if he wanted to be a girl. According to Canada if the parents say 'no you're like 11' that's bad and mean and horrible

there's a strict, established procedure for diagnosing gender dysphoria in children and i'm assuming that they would need a formal diagnosis or at least fit the bill https://www.psychiatry.org/patients-families/gender-dysphoria/what-is-gender-dysphoria

yeah, but gender dysphoria is really hard to diagnose, because of the uncertainty behind the kid's commitment to being another gender
there's a good chance that they're just homoloveual and will grow out of those feelings over time, so to do anything drastic right off the bat is dangerous thinking
and let's not forget, this is Canada, with their xe's and xim's and cacacoocoopeepee's, and such laws protecting proper pronoun usage
in short, it stupid, it's a gross overreach of power and I'm not surprised because it's loving Canada

which is why the diagnosis requirements are specifically stricter for children (see the link in that quote for more detailed info about the clinical definition of this stuff)
