But the only thing any criticism of stuff like this is met with is whataboutism from people who refuse to see the core issue here.

Every shooting there's some fringe group of handicaps scrambling to figure out what the "Core issue" of it was that caused the shooting, rather than realizing that the shooter in question was mentally ill and dangerous 99% of the time. This time is no different. Be it your insane ramblings about the main stream media, a supposed obsession with doom or what have you, it's all the forgetin same.

the media is absolutely responsible for a good deal of the political climate these days, though it's a complex problem and i think it's more profit-motivated than anything else. since watergate, the vietnam war, etc. the media's tended to switch to a much more sensationalist "watchdog" approach to journalism that focuses a lot more on trying to expose corruption and cause alarm than in previous eras, and as you might imagine, this approach can tend to instigate divisive and heated rhetoric, and it kinda feeds into itself over time. but, it makes money because it catches people's attention, and people like it in the short term, because as it turns out, people really enjoy drama lol
nearly everyone agrees at this point that the media is a stuffshow, even if they disagree about why, and it's obvious that the right feels especially disgruntled, probably for a lack of a sense of proper representation
actually looking into it a bit more, the partisan divide on news media outlook is pretty interesting: http://www.journalism.org/2017/05/10/americans-attitudes-about-the-news-media-deeply-divided-along-partisan-lines/ i thought things were much more unanimous, but it shifts all the time with the swing of the federal government. however, the most recent divide is exceedingly large, probably not unlikely that this is fueled largely by anti-MSM sentiments being given a real platform in the white house

Holding my breath that this isn't some hard-left terrorist group responsible, that would be the loving last thing our country needs.
