| why are linux users the most friendy* loving pieces of stuff on the planet? |

| McJob:
Most of the people who use Linux are heavy enthusiasts and professionals, and their experience/responsibilities generally mean they have strong opinions in the computing field. Mix that with G.I.F.T. and it often sounds like they're forgetwads, when really they're just people who deeply give a stuff about something. I am exactly like these people, except over Game Design. Whether I'm right or wrong is irrelevant to the fact; I just feel the same sense of entitlement to have a an idea of what I'm talking about. The people I hate are what I call the "Edge Crowd". They're generally teens outside of the industry or indies who've matured believing in these ideas without any real exposure, and they form this opinion that corporations are all about exploitation and that anything normal is below them. They praise Linux not because it actually suits their needs (which, let's be honest, even MacOSX could satisfy these people if they bothered to learn more about the systems) but simply because they have this idea that it validates their "special" existence (ala every loving Tumblrette who uses made up grouping identifiers). I feel like a lot of the people I get angry at in the BLF community are the latter; kids who legitimately are praising Linux not because it gives them a better experience, but simply because it fulfils their ego. There are people in this community who I do trust to know what they're on about and have legitimate need, but it's not the majority, in the same way that 90% of people commenting in relationship advice threads have probably never even looked at a chick. |
