The real reason I didn't include modified posts is because smf uses it's own timestamp format that I couldn't figure out before my patience blew. 

I assume this is also what causes the 'New' button to refer to older posts in a topic as well?

I bet this was all orchestrated by someone that had a drama topic made on them or backfire as a last ditch effort to erase any and all evidence of the past days.

I'd say forget it and im just glad that unread posts are fixed because that stuff drived me nuts having to click the same topic 10 times just so it would be marked as read
