you find out near the ending of the movie that peter Parker's 'black love interest' is actually the daughter of the movies main villain (white guy). it's supposed to be a complete surprise and not something that can easily be connected from earlier in the movie. after all she's black and he's white

Making Mary Jane black was incredibly forced. Mary Jane is a natural red head, black people aren't born with red hair.

That's probably the dumbest way to handle something.

Why not just have the villain black? Or is it not progressive to have a black villain?
