i don't want to be in this country all the same

Some people are talking like this would be a war like Iraq, which is completely wrong. This would be a war like the Gulf War, where we forgeted up the Iraqis big time with only double-digit casualties. It'd likely be over within a couple of days. We are the most powerful military in the world bar none, plus we would presumably have the backing of NATO and anyone who felt threatened that NK actually fulfilled one of their promises. NK is a speck of dust. They don't even have widespread electricity in their country. They have no chance of winning whatsoever, even if they do a Killzone 2 and detonate a nuke in their own city like madmen.

Once we win, just do what we did with Japan and Germany, in coalition with SK, and we're all set. It'd be like removing a wart.

Disregarding North Korean brainwash-nationalism and spirit, their huge army on endless training, their large navy, the possibility of them nuking South Korea, China, or Japan, and the fact that China would also be interested in keeping a buffer state between them and South Korea, yeah it'd be over in a week.

NK may have a large army but they are poorly equipped and technologically inferior. They'd just be throwing men into the meat grinder and hoping their sheer manpower can overwhelm the US. Spoiler alert: manpower doesn't win battles. See: the Somme

The topic at hand isn't really whether or not NK poses a severe threat to us, it's how do we deescalate the situation to minimize the loss of human life to the fullest extent. I know it's easy to say "lol screw them all idc if the whole country gets obliterated", but almost all of those people living there are basically trapped against their will. Many have families in South Korea. Their humans just like us, but were born into really bad circumstances.

In the event of war, leveraging air superiority from carriers in the south China Sea to carry out a series of surgical strikes on critical pieces of NK military infrastructure/the supply chain/power grid seems like the best option. Civilian casualties may still occur, but should be fairly minimal provided they aren't hiding inside of a missile silo or arms depot.

The question becomes not how to defeat NK (that doesn't seem particularly difficult) but rather how to protect civilians in the process.
