i never said that. you can either die a painful death by sticks and flag poles or you can sit in jail for 2-8 years. i didn't make up the laws, blame whoever did
if you want to be narrow minded and take one of those two options as opposed to backing up your car and driving away, then fine by me.

You word this as though everyone counterprotesting saw violence as an appropriate response to the protest. Most of the protestors (on both sides) were peaceful and you shouldn't expect a violent response if you're not being violent yourself.

I mean protest groups have blocked highways before, I can see someone thinking it would be dangerous to do a U-turn on the highway

i could beat an attacker to death with a chair but it isn't considered a conventional weapon either
also in cases where a vehicle is used to assault it's classified as assault with a deadly weapon
its 100 percent self defense to hit people with anything, including your car if they're trying to kill or hurt you.
