Or maybe, just maybe, it's saber-rattling to demonstrate that their missiles are capable of reaching Japan without actually hitting Japan and starting a war? Kim Jong-Un has nothing to gain and everything to lose from a war. He's not a cartoon supervillain. He's a person, and I'm fairly certain he wants to keep living as a dictator rather than dying a prisoner.

he has attention, along with a page in the history book. i think thats worth something, especially considering that people are still seriously afraid of their nuclear power despite it being basically mud shacks
