Can we take a second here to appreciate how a single forum for an old game caused so much stress for one man simply because of the amount of stuffheads he has to deal with on a monthly basis? Blockland is nothing, it was dead for years. If Blockland and it's forum were removed, it would have almost zero inpact on anything in the world. I think the only reason this cursed site is still up is only because Badspot never really considered removing it before, and just became used to moderating it constantly and with little payment in return. It seems only now he realized that shutting everything down might not be a terrible idea.
I also appreciate the sort of godlike way Badspot is portrayed in the community. I guess it has to do with how we barely know anything about his personal life, only have a few pictures of him, and how he rarely posts anything. And when he does, it's either to ban someone or completely decimate someone else in an argument. He's just a talented programmer living somewhere in Oregon yet we see him as some powerful ruler or deity.
If this really is Blockland's last stand, I'm not too sad to see it go. We've had some goofs and funny moments, but in a way all those things are old and more nostalgic than anything, keeping it up is like forcing an old senile writer to keep writing just because he wrote some good novels 40 years ago. Hell, some of the best moments were directly caused by stuffheads starting drama, and that isn't really a way to maintain a site. Perhaps Badspot will keep it up though, just for stuffs and giggles. Maybe he wants to see how long it takes before a year goes by without a single post.
In the meantime... SM forums, anyone?
