Catalonia has been wanting independence since at least the 1700s in the war of spanish succession. The reality is they just don't have the strength to fight off the spanish themselves and they aren't getting ANY outside help. The only way they could possibly get independence at this point would be from the backing of the EU and the threat of embargos on spain and even then thats iffy. Since that hasn't happened they will stay as part of spain and continue to bitch about it like they have the last 300 years. When it comes to them being able to support themselves as an independent state they have nothing of real value to offer the world in terms of raw materials or service based.. The spanish are like this as well but they are big enough to produce enough nothing that validates their existence and they have the privilege of leeching off of the EU. |
