the creators of south park not moving away from politics. for one, they've said that they have to cater to the fact that Garrison is president, but it's not their focus. two, they've always made political jokes, but only recently did they have entire seasons centered around being satirical of our current political landscape.
they're going back to their roots in the sense that they're not making one big, continuous, season-spanning story that ends with a nice cherry on top and a moral lesson. they're going back to kids being kids.

The entire episode last night was just garrison tweeting and then blaming garrison for his tweets.
