it's a game that originated on forums more like reddit's formatting, where responses are indented below the addressed post instead of simply quoting/referencing it
on that format, the joke is a lot funnier because OP doesn't deliberately obscure the contents of what he's responded to
basically, you ask a relatively normal question, which the OP then responds to with a similarly normal answer. you then edit your question post, so that it looks like OP said the original response to the now edited question.
ex:
Q: "What do you prefer: kebabs, or salads?"
A: "Kebabs."
becomes:
Q: "What must absolutely be removed?"
A: "Kebabs."
