Popcorn and gum never caused issues. the only thing which ever broke my braces were tootsie rolls so I would advise you to stay away from any food which might push/tug on the braces with considerable force.

chicken breast had a tendency to pop out my trainer wires and my springs. luckily my mom had braces years ago and knew how to put that stuff back in place

also you're gonna get metal wires glued behind your teeth after you're done with braces. be careful when eating hard shell tacos, they're more powerful than you realize and it's very expensive to glue those wires back on (personal experience). also your teeth will shift if you don't wear the overnight retainer they give you after you're done with braces.

My dentist suggested I get overbite braces, but they weren't legitimate braces. They were hard-plastic strips I'd wear in my mouth at night when I sleep. I declined because my overbite isn't significant to warrant even an observation.

Orthodontists prey on the vanity of parents to torture their children for money.  It is not possible to be an suburban orthodontist and be a good person - they are mutually exclusive conditions.

so i guess you got bullied for having braces? or am i just reading this wrong?

There is no secret subtext here.  I say what I mean.  It is torture for money.  I am 90% sure my orthodontist was a literal sadist.  Your teeth move back as soon as you stop wearing your retainer.  There's no loving point to any of it unless your face is massively forgeted up or you're so vain about having ultra straight teeth that you'll keep a piece of plastic in your mouth every night for the next 10 years.

Also I don't know what broke ass school you went to but at mine you wouldn't be able to bully people for having braces because like 30% of the students had them at one point or another.
