Getting overbite braces sometime in october.
JumboMuffin:
got them may 2015 cause there was a 9mm gap between top and bottom teeth (overbite)
they hurt a lot at first but your jaw moves quickly at first, then the remaining time is ensuring the jaw stays there
then got traintracks for 1y2m (off jul 2017) so my teeth r nice now :D
edit: none of the below applied to me, i am happy with the result and it was worth the week of pain after it stopped
edit2: here in england braces are free until the age of 18 so knowing they were free was good too
Badspot:
Expect years of pain for little to no benefit. Also your lips will be permanently stretched out. Unless you have an actual functional problem or you look like loving smeagol when you smile, don't do it. If I butterfly-effected my self back in time, I would oppose the braces decision to the point of physically fighting my own mother if it were necessary.
Orthodontists prey on the vanity of parents to torture their children for money. It is not possible to be an suburban orthodontist and be a good person - they are mutually exclusive conditions.
Mr Queeba:
i'm taking out my braces in a month after over 2 years, thank the lord because they were torture. some stuff to keep in mind:
at first, your teeth will hurt like hell. this is normal and the pain subsides in a few days, eat soft stuff in the meantime.
if theres any springs or whatever in your braces, don't play around with them. i had a bad habit of doing that when i had springs in my braces and they broke as a result.
if you get elastics, keep a bag with you if they break (they WILL break).
you'll be provided with a no-chew list saying you can't have stuff like soft candies, popcorn, gum, etc because they might "get stuck in your braces". in my experience (i've chewed gum and ate quite a lot of sour patch kids with my braces) i didn't have any issues, however it may be different for you. if something gets stuck in your braces just use a christmas tree-shaped brush or toothpick to get it out. don't think it's a good idea to bite straight into an apple tho, that would probably break them.
but yea, good luck to you.
randomtroll39:
i might be getting braces because my canine teeth are twisted
this thread probably has good advice

yeah much of the no-chew/no-drink list is unnecessary. I drank a ton of soda while I had braces, no noticeable erosion of the adhesive. Popcorn and gum never caused issues. the only thing which ever broke my braces were tootsie rolls so I would advise you to stay away from any food which might push/tug on the braces with considerable force.
