I think your problem is less that "Kimmel is politicizing a tragedy which is objectively bad" and more that "Kimmel is using a tragedy to make a political point that I disagree with". At least be honest about it. You might be a little less cautionary about politicizing tragedies if this guy was a Muslim, though.
But yeah sure, people like Kimmel shouldn't study the causes and effects of political tragedies. They should just tweet out "thoughts and prayers" like every Republican trying to cover their own ass with their campaign donations from the NRA. No, we need to have these discussions. We're not gonna fix any problems if after every single mass shooting we don't do anything in the political realm.

In all seriousness pretending that stuff like this can be solved by one thing (banning muslims, banning guns, more background checks, better treatment towards the mentally ill) or that it was caused by one thing is loving handicapped. Every murdering piece of stuff has a different reason for why they did the things they did and they don't all fall under this one blanket of autism. Do you really think this guy would have decided 'forget it, since weapons are illegal I'm just gonna not massacre a bunch of people'? If he couldn't possibly get a hold of a gun he probably would have just taken a page out of europe handbook and plowed through a crowd of people with a truck.
Some people are mentally ill, some people are vengeful, some people are fanatical, and some people are just evil. Pretending like there is a magical solution or that there is this all encompassing problem is naive. I would expect this type of arguing from the 14 year olds on this forum but not the adults here.
